Harmonizing for Good: Support Music City Drum Corps on Giving Tuesday

In the spirit of giving and community, this Giving Tuesday presents a unique opportunity to support an organization that strikes a chord not just in music but in the hearts of many. Music City Drum Corps, the premier ensemble of Music City Youth in the Arts, is hosting a #GivingTuesday campaign to raise money for needed food truck repair and upgrades.

Last summer we experienced some minor damage to the under storage of the trailer while on tour. There are also safety upgrades that need to be made. The food truck is the life-line of any drum corps. This is where our performers and staff get fed and this is where we meet as a corps and with family and friends after a performance. We are looking to raise $5,000, half of what estimated repairs and upgrades are expected to cost.

Why Support Music City Drum Corps on Giving Tuesday

  1. Empowering Youth Through Music: Investing in Music City Drum Corps is an investment in the future of young performers. The organization provides a supportive environment for individuals to express themselves through musical and visual performance, fostering creativity, discipline, and teamwork.

  2. Building Leaders: The skills learned in Music City Drum Corps go beyond music. Participants develop leadership qualities, teamwork, and a strong work ethic, shaping them into well-rounded individuals ready to face the challenges of the future.

  3. Aging Equipment: It allows us to make upgrades and improvements to our aging food truck to include new stairs, generator tune-up, electrical wiring updates, reefer tune-up, organizational adjustments, and so much more.

Donating to Non-Profits

Donating to non-profits at the end of the year not only allows you to support causes you care about but also comes with potential tax benefits. Here's a brief explanation:

  1. Tax Deductions: When you make a donation to a qualified non-profit organization, you may be eligible for a tax deduction. This means the amount you donate can be subtracted from your taxable income, reducing the total amount of income that is subject to taxation.

  2. Itemizing Deductions: To benefit from the tax deduction, you typically need to itemize your deductions when filing your income tax return. Itemizing involves listing out individual expenses, including charitable contributions, rather than taking the standard deduction. It's essential to ensure that your total itemized deductions exceed the standard deduction for your filing status to maximize the tax benefits of your donations.

  3. Record-Keeping: To claim a deduction for your charitable contributions, it's crucial to keep accurate records of your donations. This includes receipts or acknowledgment letters from the non-profit organization. The documentation should specify the amount donated, the date, and the organization's tax-exempt status.

  4. State Tax Benefits: In addition to federal tax benefits, some states offer additional incentives for charitable contributions. Be sure to check your state's tax laws to see if there are any additional deductions or credits available.

It's important to consult with a tax professional to understand the specific implications of your charitable contributions based on your individual financial situation. They can provide personalized advice to help you make the most of the tax benefits associated with your year-end donations to non-profit organizations. Music City Youth in the Arts is not a tax professional service.
